Have I forgotten the Lord?

by Gina Franklin

With all the controversies going on in our Nation and truly in our World; it seems everyone is looking for someone to blame. Not that long ago it was all President Bush's fault, now it's all Obama's fault. As I was studying God's Word this morning I was moved by what I read. Perhaps it's all my fault, and all your fault.

READ THIS:

Deuteronomy 8:1-14

"8 You must carefully follow all of the every command that I am giving you right now so you can live and multiply and enter and take possession of the land that the Lord swore to your ancestors. Remember the long road on which the Lord your God led you during these forty years in the desert so he could humble you, testing you to find out what was in your heart: whether you would keep his commandments or not. 3 He humbled you by making you hungry and then feeding you the manna that neither you nor your ancestors had ever experienced, so he could teach you that people don’t live on bread alone. No, they live based on whatever the Lord says. 4 During these forty years, your clothes didn’t wear out and your feet didn’t swell up. 5 Know then in your heart that the Lord your God has been disciplining you just as a father disciplines his children. Keep the commandments of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him, 7 because the Lord your God is bringing you to a wonderful land, a land with streams of water, springs, and wells that gush up in the valleys and on the hills; 8 a land of wheat and barley, vines, fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive oil and honey; 9 a land where you will eat food without any shortage—you won’t lack a thing there—a land where stone is hard as iron and where you will mine copper from the hills. 10 You will eat, you will be satisfied, and you will bless the Lord your God in the wonderful land that he’s given you.

Against wealth and overconfidence

11 But watch yourself! Don’t forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commands or his case laws or his regulations that I am commanding you right now. 12 When you eat, get full, build nice houses, and settle down, 13 and when your herds and your flocks are growing large, your silver and gold are multiplying, and everything you have is thriving, 14 don’t become arrogant, forgetting the Lord your God:

the one who rescued you from Egypt, from the house of slavery..."

Now, I know for those of us who don't like to be told they are wrong, my statement above has already ruffled your feathers. Let me explain. I cannot control or change anyone but myself; and neither can you. Until we are lead by the Spirit of God, our influence is limited, at best. And really compared to Gods wisdom, you and I have little to offer others. I may not have walked 40 years through a literal desert; but I have journeyed through my own personal, physical, and spiritual deserts. I have been tested, refined, and provided for.

Here is what the Lord has shown me this morning. I have a shorted sighted memory, it is lead by my feelings and emotions, much of the time. SO when things are great I am thankful, even in the small things. But when I am hurting; it is easy to forget those provisions and to wander in the wilderness of complaint.

What would happen if I lived in a state of remembrance; if I taught my kids to live in a state of remembrance? What would happen if you did the same? Perhaps our Nation and even our World would look different. Gods promise was that He would take his people to a land of abundance and provide and bless them with increase. America has known this type of provision from the Lord. The farther we get away from Biblical truths and being a Nation under ONE God, the worse things get.

Have I forgotten? Have you forgotten?

Here's my heart cry for myself today, Lord forgive me for my short-sightedness, for my weak mind and sinful heart. Help me to refocus. It is so easy to get distracted and to lose focus. Help me to center my gaze on You, and your Word. Revive the breath of life within me. Renew a right spirit within me. Holy Spirit wash off all of the junk that weighs me down, and keeps me from remembering and teaching my kids to remember.                      Purify me Holy One!

I know this is a longer post for me; but really, what would happen if each of us began to remember?

Life is Beautiful!
