In a world where there are so many people desperate to be loved, this topic sits heavily upon my mind and heart. As youth pastors we watch teens and young adults compromise their morals and values, for a temporary fix to the emptiness they feel inside. They will give up their bodies, their values, and dishonor their parents; for a love they hope will last. And in the end most of them are left broken and empty;' and on the search for a love they hope will fix them.
I am not going to say I have all the answers because I don't; but God does. I am not writing to those who are searching to be and feel loved. I am writing to those of us who have discovered the amazing soul satisfying love of Christ. Let's get real, if you spend enough time around people, both Christian and non-christian; you will see the struggles they battle. Accepting Christ does not mean that we automatically look and live like Christ. We have sin and weaknesses that we MUST daily bring to Christ, in order to grow into the holiness He died to give us.
Eph. 5:1,2 " Be imitators of God, therefor; as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering to God."
Phil. 2:5-8 "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who being the very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death even death on a cross."
Oswald Chambers~ To be a disciple means that we deliberately identify ourselves with God's interests in other people. "That ye love one another, as I have loved you..." the expression of Christian character is not good doing, but Godlikeness. If the Spirit of God has transformed you within, you will exhibit Divine characteristics in your life, not good human characteristics. God's life in us expresses itself as God's life, not as human life trying to be godly. WOW! This is one mighty thought, and dare I say challenge.
Cynthia Healed writes in her study, Becoming A Woman Who Loves; One day I went into the kitchen to prepare a cup of tea, and asked my husband if he wanted some too. He thought for a moment and then replied, "Actually, I'd like a cup of hot chocolate." Standing at the stove I replied, "Well, hon, if you want hot chocolate, you'll have to fix it yourself. I only have time to make tea." She continues on saying; all of a sudden I was a Levite rushing down the road past a man in need-with no time in my schedule for anything extra. Sure I would serve, but only when it was convenient and as long as it didn't interrupt my schedule.
Christ followers, it is time that you and I wrap a towel around our waists and begin to serve the world in a way that is needed, not in the ways that are convenient. We need to seek God to help us lay don our lives as He did. We need to be love to a world that is desperate to be loved. Let's be busy teaching, demonstrating, and simply being God's love to a world that is desperate to be loved.
Life is Beautiful!!!
